After you’ve collected this basic information about the
• individual’s personal asthma triggers, and
• talked about their medical management plan, begin your walkthrough, or the visual assessment of the home.
Some general tips about performing a walkthrough, include:
• Explain that you are looking for common environmental issues that may cause existing asthma to become worse.
• Always be accompanied by the person with asthma or one of their family members. This will give family members the opportunity to ask questions and you can discuss your observations throughout the walkthrough.
• Finally, ask the family if they have any particular concerns about the home environment. These concerns are a good place to begin.
If no specific issues or locations are mentioned, the bedroom of the person with asthma is where you can start.
